Massachusetts Recognizes Springfield Housing Director for Homeless Efforts
Mayor Sarno holds local ceremony in her honor
May 19, 2008 - Mayor Domenic J. Sarno will recognize the accomplishments of Geraldine McCafferty, deputy director of Homeless and Special Needs Housing for the City of Springfield, during a short ceremony in his office on Friday, May 23rd at 1 p.m.
McCafferty is the 2008 recipient of the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance Cornerstone Award, which honors individuals and organizations who have demonstrated innovated efforts to end homelessness and a commitment to providing assistance and care for homeless citizens across the Commonwealth. McCafferty will be honored during a ceremony and reception at the Omni Parker House Hotel in Boston on Wednesday, May 21.
Mayor Sarno will be joined by members of the Homes Within Reach working committee during the City Hall ceremony on May 23rd. Homes Within Reach is a 10-year plan to end homelessness in the City of Springfield created and spearheaded by McCafferty.
Sarno said: "Gerry McCafferty is regarded as an expert in her field throughout the nation and we are privileged that she is leading our very important project to end homelessness in Springfield. Her leadership has placed Springfield in the national spotlight and we are pleased that the state has recognized her contribution and join them in honoring her."
